Anywhere Connect iPhone and iPad – Instant Messaging

Introduction

Anywhere Connect helps you stay in touch with colleagues using chat, for quick interactions when it’s not convenient to talk.

Note: This feature is unavailable for Anywhere Connect users who have a Skype4Business profile.

Starting a Chat Message

The Chat tab shows the list of recent chats since the last login. If User A chats with User B multiple times, their discussions appear as one item in the list. Tapping the name opens the chat view (IM view) where new messages can be typed.

New incoming messages are indicated with a notification badge to the right of the name.

  1. To initiate a chat session, select the name of the recipient from your directory.
  2. Then, inside the contact’s profile, select the Chat icon.

  1. Initiate a group chat session, select the Chat icon to open the chat tab.
  2. Then, select the Options icon at the top right-hand corner of the chat window.
  3. Select Start group chats.
  4. Then, select the contacts you would like to invite to the chat session and tap Done. More participants can be added later to the chat using the Add Participant icon.
  5. A group chat works the same as a one-on-one chat. All messages from anyone are sent to everyone else. All contacts need to be online to be able to participate in a group chat. You cannot invite offline contact.
  6. A group chat is saved and is available to view later in the Chat tab.
A user can leave a group chat by following these steps:
  1. Select the Options icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Chat window.
  2. Then select Leave Chat.
  3. The chat will be marked as "offline," and the user will no longer receive messages from the chat. When selecting the offline chat, the user re-joins the room and starts receiving messages. However, the user does not receive the messages that were sent in the chat while the user was outside of the room.
To clear the chat history, follow these steps:
  1. Select the Options icon in the upper right-hand corner of the Chat window.
  2. Then select Clear History. This option works the same as the corresponding option in a one-on-one chat and removes the local history.
  3. Select the View Participants icon to open a dialog that shows the list of participants in the group chat.
